About this Event

The challenges of the 21st century have been diverse and profound: climate change, the COVID-19 pandemic, energy and water shortage and the ramping levels of environmental pollutants. All of these place enormous stress on the world's food system. These threats demand the development of urgent approaches to create new, ground-breaking food and nutrition solutions to ensure global food sustainability in the future. At this event, we will explore innovative solutions throughout the whole food technology landscape to address ongoing issues in the realm of food supply, safety, and sustainability.

Speakers

Alexander Giles is chief commercial director of Iceni Labs and commercial director of Liberty Produce, a farming and technology company, growing British produce year-round using a fully-controlled indoor vertical farming system. The Future Farming Hub is a vertical farming commercial demonstrator which has been established by Liberty Produce, in partnership with CHAP (Crop Health and Protection) and Iceni Labs. The capability develops new and next-generation technologies that provide commercial value and defined grower benefits.

Ian Cox is the Innovation Lead of AgriTech Centres at Innovate UK. He manages the delivery of a £90 million capital programme with matched industry funding, to develop a series of leading edge centres for agri-tech innovation making the UK the "go to" place for applied agri-tech research. Ian also leads on the development of agri-tech relationships with China having signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the China Rural Technology Development Centre in November 2016, and was an assessor for the Scottish Centre for Expertise in Plant Health.

Jennifer is an academic and is the head of plant R&D for Vertical Future, an ambitious Vertical Farming company based in London. She has put into place a research agenda to support the company’s aim to improve the health of urban population through greater access to nutritious, locally grown crops via farms the company owns and operates and through our technology which Vertical Future installs for others.

Ahmed Khan is the founder and editor of CellAgri, a news and insights startup exploring the future of food with cellular agriculture. CellAgri provides the latest updates and insights on a range of topics relating to cellular agriculture. Ahmed is also the author of the first cellular agriculture ebook, 'An Introduction to Cellular Agriculture,' and easy-to-read introduction to the field. Ahmed is a co-founder and member of the Board of Directors for Cellular Agriculture Canada, a non-profit organization advancing and promoting the cellular agriculture industry in Canada. Ahmed has previously spoken about cellular agriculture in Singapore, Canada, the UK, and the US.
